As you may be aware do to our previous posts, Claire attended last night’s Emmy Awards, accompanied by her husband Hugh Dancy and wearing a beautiful red Givenchy dress. InStyle has published an article about Claire’s preparations for the event, which includes insights by her makeup artist, Matin Maulawizada, and her hairstylist, Peter Butler. Read it below:
She may have played grunge queen Angela Chase in My So-Called Life, but for tonight’s Emmy Awards, Claire Danes‘s beauty look gave a nod to the more glamorous end of the ’90s. “Claire’s Givenchy dress reminded me of the supermodels at the end of the ’80s and into the early ’90s–Karen Mulder in particular,” her makeup artist Matin tells InStyle exclusively. “She was always perfectly blonde with beautiful lips and eyes, and I’ve been dreaming of doing that look, but in a more modern way.”
Rather than playing up just one area of her face, Matin didn’t skimp on the drama, choosing to emphasize both her eyes and lips against a glowing complexion. “It’s more dramatic than usual, but it’s an ode to those glamorous days of the supermodels,” he adds. Of course, Matin and Danes’s hairstylist Peter Butler had a blast while prepping her for the big event. “Peter and I have been working with her for so many years. Her baby, husband, and parents were around, and it truly felt like being at home,” Matin says. “She was playing really beautiful music, so we were listening to that, chillilng out, and she brought along crafts and trinkets she had picked up in South Africa, so we were opening presents and having a lot of fun.” Keep reading to get a behind-the-scenes sneak peek at how Danes and her glam squad pulled her look together, and to find out how you can recreate it yourself!

Lesley Mofokeng, from the website City Press, had a chance to talk to Claire on the set of “Homeland” this week. She published an article about their conversation earlier today, and you can read it below:
Vuyo Mbuli must be smiling from the grave. The veteran broadcaster, who died last year, will be proud to know that “sharp sharp” – a phrase he was known for – has caught on with Hollywood royalty. Claire Danes, star of the hit TV series, Homeland, which is shooting in Cape Town, says this is her favourite piece of South African slang.
She intends to keep using it when she goes back home to the US.
“‘Sharp sharp’ is my favourite,” she enthused when City Press visited her on the set of the series.
The actress plays Carrie Mathison, a CIA operations officer with bipolar disorder, in the Golden Globe and Emmy-award winning drama.
“Of course, I know about ‘just now’, ‘now now’ and ‘howzit’. One of my best friends lived in Cape Town for two years and our children are around the same age. She kept calling my son ‘boy’ and I thought that was kind of aggressive, but I actually now see why she was doing that. I also like ‘my lady’ and ‘boss’,” she said.
Not only has her stay been a lesson in linguistics, but Danes has indulged in the culinary delights offered by the fairest Cape. “As for food, I’m now officially on a diet because the food has been effing incredible. When I first got here, I was a little overexcited, so I’m taking a pause for a second so I can head back to the culinary offers again.”
“Cape Town has been good to me, I love being here. It’s one of the most beautiful places I have been to on the planet. I travel pretty extensively and it is breathtakingly beautiful. I’ve been doing these trail runs and I can’t believe this is just a casual run at the end of the day – they have these heavenly views.”
“But I’ve been working hard too and spending the majority of my time at the office, so to speak. I’m also aware of the cultures recalibrating after apartheid. But I’m moved by the beauty of the place and the people have been warm.”
